Obituary

Jim C. Jones died on September 25, 2012 at the age of 81. Jim was born on January 25, 1931 in Joplin, MO to Albert and Mildred Jones, both deceased. Jim attended school in Joplin and graduated from Kemper Military Academy in Boonville, then attended MO Southern in Joplin. Jim was the beloved husband of Kathy (Lewis), loving father to sons Jimmy and wife Cheryl, of Springfield, Jeff and wife Vicky of Ozark, and Jon of Springfield. Jim adored grandsons Jack and Lincoln Jones, was special "Unkle Jim" to John and Stephen Finnie, and special American Dad to Deborah Leon. Jim served in the US Army during the Korean War. During his lifetime he had a furniture company in Joplin, and did lobbying in Washington, D.C. But his long term career, greatest joy and challenge came from his real estate firm, Jones and Company in Springfield which grew into a large company with over one hundred agents. Jim was honored by being named Missouri Realtor of the Year, and he was a member of Unity Church in Springfield. Jim participated in numerous civic activities including the Southeast Rotary Club of Springfield where he served as president in 1973-1974 and was also president of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce. Jim served on the Boards of Mercy Hospital and Good Samaritan Boys' Ranch. In 1983 he married Kathy Lewis, of St. Louis. Jim enjoyed many varied hobbies and activities: biking, woodworking, flying, fishing, traveling, gardening, and cooking Jim was famous for making chili for all the agents at Jones and Company and he participated in the Springfield Chili Cook Off with his chili. Jim loved improving every home and yard he lived in with flower beds and decks. He participated with his youngest son in the strenuous Boy Scout Boundary Waters High Adventure Camp. Jim was truly a Renaissance Man. Most of all, he enjoyed his friends in his special eating groups, the Romeos and the Gold Table. Jim never failed to meet everyone with a smile and was always asking who ever came thru the door what's going on and never met a stranger. He was always interested in things he did not know about. One of his greatest joys was building houses and starting subdivisions. Visitation will be Friday, September 28, at 10:30 .with funeral service at 11:30 am, both at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
