IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jim
Turner
November 3, 1940 – June 17, 2024
James "Jim" E. Turner, 83, of Springfield, passed peacefully on June 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Jim is survived by three daughters, DeeAnn Jost of Chesterfield, Missouri, Sue Turner of Springfield, Missouri, Amy Witcher and her husband Lance of Sunset Hills, Missouri. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Jake Jost, Erik Jost, Will Jost, Robert Witcher, Nicholas Witcher and Kathryn Witcher; brother Ron Turner and his wife Mary Jane of Columbia, Missouri. Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife Glenda Turner, and his daughter Mary L. Turner.
Jim was born November 3, 1940 in Lebanon, Missouri to Woodson and Mary Turner. He was raised in Conway, Missouri. Growing up, he found great adventures horseback riding, fishing and hunting with his brother. Jim graduated from Conway High School in 1958 where he participated in all things athletic, performing arts and was student body president. This is where he met the love of his life Glenda and they married in 1959. Jim earned a Bachelor's Degree from Missouri State University and later his Master's Degree in Education at Drury University.
His early career was spent in education, first as a high school teacher and basketball coach, followed by the University of Missouri Kansas City Continuing Education Program. Most of his professional life was spent in the real estate business where as he would say, "I covered Southwest Missouri like the dew."
Jim had a passion for golfing and was known for his one-handed putt, cigar in his mouth and two "hole-in-ones". He was an avid fan of Missouri State Bears Basketball, St. Louis Cardinals and Missouri Tigers. But most of all, he enjoyed watching his grandkids games.
As we say goodbye to a remarkable man, we will always remember his compassion, warm smile, keen sense of humor and love of family and lifelong friends.
Services will be held on June 21, 2024, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home located at 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, Missouri. A visitation will take place at 11am, followed by a memorial service at 12pm.
If desired, memorial contributions can be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or American Cancer Society.
