Jewell Naomi Schweitzer, 97, Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in her home.  She was born January 21, 1921 on a farm near Grove, Oklahoma, the daughter of Willis Jasper and Mattie Ethel (Tosh) Thompson.

Jewell was very generous and most recently made a donation for the revitalization of the Brentwood Library.  She was an active member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church for many years as well as the PEO Chapter in Springfield.  Jewell was very civic minded.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fred Carl Schweitzer; her son, David Schweitzer; four brothers, Mel Allen, Will Allen, Blake L. Thompson, and Richard C. Thompson.

Jewell is survived by her brother, Charles W. Thompson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018 in Hazelwood Cemetery, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library, 2214 South Brentwood Blvd., Springfield, MO 65804 or First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, 820 Cherry, Springfield, MO 65806.
