Jewell Evelyn Owens, 77, Springfield, passed away Monday, November 15, 2021 in her home from a long, hard battle with cancer. She was born in Butler, Missouri to Spencer and Francis Mellenbruch on October 7, 1944.
She had a very strong faith and love in the Lord. Jewell graduated high school in 1962 from Rich Hill, Missouri. Shortly after high school, she moved to Kansas City with friends. She moved to Springfield in 1966. Jewell worked for the Springfield Police Department for close to 20 years as a secretary. She took pride in her work and loved her job.
For years, she was an avid bowler and always enjoyed seeing her friends on bowling night. She loved growing plants and had quite the green thumb. Jewell loved spending time with her daughter and grandkids. She was a great babysitter to her grand-dogs. Holiday get-togethers were always her favorite. She loved good food and great company.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jewell is survived by her loving daughter, Tammy Owens; grandchildren, Bret and Michelle Williams and Cody Williams; special friends, Jean, Charlene, Garrett and Melissa; and lots of other wonderful friends.
Jewell will be truly missed by all who loved her.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Jessica Snider for all the love, care and hard work given to Jewell the past 6 years.
A small memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021 with visitation to follow in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Private burial will be held in Rich Hill, Missouri.
