Jewell Dayne Davis, 93, died Saturday, February 23, 2013 in James River Care Center. Jewell was born in Charity, Missouri, April 13, 1919 to Hern and Gladys White. Growing up during the Great Depression, Jewell was taught first hand lessons of compassion, strength, and selflessness by watching her mother and father never turn away anyone asking for food on their doorstep. These lessons helped to shape Jewell into a strong and beautiful woman. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1937. Shortly after graduation, Jewell met the love of her life, Eugene "Toopy" Davis, who played baseball alongside her brother, Billy Joe White. Two days after Toopy returned from serving in World War II, they married and spent the rest of their lives together in Springfield, raising their daughter Juliann. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Juliann and Ron Slone; three grandchildren, Ryan and Olivia Slone, Stephanie and Brian Snadon, Brent Davis Slone and fiancee Monica Martinez; and three great grandchildren, Davis and Gavin Slone, and Jewell Snadon. For over seventy years Jewell was a faithful member of Community of Christ church. She will be remembered for her strength, wisdom, and the unconditional love that she gave to her family. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in White Chapel Cemetery.
