Obituary

Jessie Eva Calhoun, age 100, died in Springfield on November 18, 2015. Born in Ozark County, Missouri on July 16, 1915, she was married to Frank Calhoun, former manager of Springfield's Kraft Foods factory, from age 18 until his death in 1983. Jessie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rear Admiral, USN (Ret.) John F. (Jack) and Claudia Calhoun of Lively, Virginia; a granddaughter Cate Oravet and her husband Tony of Auburn, Alabama; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Edward Parker of Mansfield and two granddaughters, Erin and Elizabeth. A full time homemaker and loving wife and mother, Jessie epitomized the attributes of "...love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." (Galatians 5:22-23). As a devoted mother she was always loving, encouraging, supportive and generous. She was befriended by many and was a friend to many. Jessie had been a member of the South Street Christian Church since 1944. A service to celebrate Jessie's life and to bear witness to her resurrection will be held at South Street Christian Church on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 1:00 pm followed by a private burial at Palmetto Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made to South Street Christian Church.
