Jesse L. "Jess" Abney, 87, Willard, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022. He was born July 19, 1934, in Springfield to Charles and Irma Abney.

Jess was a lifelong resident of Greene County. He served proudly as a Sgt. Major with the US Marines and retired after 37 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Abney; a daughter, Mitzi Abney; two sisters; and one brother.

He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Melody and Ron Huffman; a brother, William "Bill" Abney; grandson Briton Freitas; great-granddaughter Brianna Freitas; step-grandson Adam Huffman; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022, in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Willard, MO, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. An informal visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home at 1947 East Seminole Street, Springfield, MO.
