Jerry Dale Thornton Sr., 71, of Clever, MO passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by one's he loved on December 8, 2021. Jerry was born July 24, 1950 in Eminence, Missouri to Alta Ruth Thornton and Jesse William Thornton. After graduating Eminence High School in 1968, he met his best friend and love of his life. Carol Anne Wernig and Jerry were married May 14th, 1970. He joined the US Navy in 1970 and after 20 years of service he retired as a US Navy recruiter. During this time, they had 4 children and finally settled in Republic, Missouri. He then worked many years for Johnny Morris at Bass Pro. Jerry had been retired for many years and shared his love for Elvis and cruises with all his family. He loved spending time fishing and hunting. Spending time with family was always his favorite past time. Jerry never knew a stranger. He had so much love and wisdom to share with the world.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alta Ruth and father, Jesse William Thornton.

Jerry is survived by his children Patricia and Dave Harp; Julie and Leroy Butler; Jerry Jr. and Wendi Thornton; Michael and Renee Thornton. Also surviving are grandchildren Katherine Thornton and her children Noah, lly, and Yasmine; Breanna Harrel and husband Stephen; Kenneth Westerman and spouse Arianna; Skylar Butler partner Quincey Clay; Kimberly Westerman; Justin Butler and his partner Emma Hamm and soon to be great-grandchild Jaxon, Marshall Harp, Jerris Thornton, Lexi Harp, Jamis Thornton; brother, Leon Thornton and wife Joan; sister Linda Johnson and husband Terri. Jerry also had many other family members who loved him.

Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 10, 2021, at Lindsey Chapel Cemetery in Republic, MO, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
