Jerry Darwin Orr age, 69 of Springfield passed away on November 20, 2016. He was born November 21, 1946 in Mincy, MO to Charlie and Audra Orr and grew up in Mincy and attended Branson High School where he played baseball and basketball. Soon after graduation he was drafted into the Army and served overseas as a Sergeant E5. After his honorable discharge he moved to Springfield, MO where he soon opened his first restaurant and bar. In 1968 the prettiest girl he had ever seen walked into his restaurant and he and Peggy Jane Schultz were soon to be married on March 30, 1969. They lived and raised two sons in Springfield and were blessed with (4) granddaughters and a grandson. Together they owned and operated El Gatos, The Crows Nest, The Captain's Table Seafood and Steak Restaurant in Springfield and later Key Largo Seafood Company. They continued their love of working together at the Elk's Lodge #409 where Jerry was the Chef and Club Manager and she was a bartender. For nearly 50 years they served food and drinks together in Springfield and made numerous friends during this time. While running his business he always put family first and coached his boys in football, baseball and basketball and donated time to the Boys and Girls Club for many years and was a recipient of the Missouri Restauranter of the Year. In his free time loved to play golf with his boys and friends and cared for and loved his family and critters.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Dwight Orr, sisters Kathy Hatcher and Jean Vaughn.
Jerry is survived by his sons Sean Charles Orr (Connie King) and Brian Michael Orr (Melanie) of Springfield, grandchildren Shelbey Nichole Orr, Audra Grace Orr, Kennedy Jane Orr, Hunter Michael Orr, and LaLonna Nicole Walden, and sisters Fern Rutherford of San Diego, CA, Wanda McCann of Anthony, KS and Lula Belle Cornett of Oklahoma City, OK, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with burial services following for both Jerry and Peggy Orr at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, November 28, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage everyone to take your family out to a locally owned restaurant and remember to tip your server and thank the Chef.
