Jerry Dee Norbury 86, of Springfield, MO passed away October 12, 2022 in his home with his wife and son by his side. He was born on October 22, 1935, the son of Hazel Irene (Schell) Norbury and Maxie Edwin Norbury in Springfield, MO. Jerry graduated from Strafford High School in 1954. In July 1956 Jerry married Helen Sims. They were married 66 years.
He worked for the city of Wichita for 15 years before returning to Springfield. After his return to Springfield, he worked at French's Mustard as a maintenance mechanic until his retirement. While there he developed many long-standing friendships.
He was a former member of the BMW Road Riders, Retreads Motorcycle Club, Gold Wing Riders. Also, the "Spicy Riders" a group of employees at French's. Jerry and Helen covered many miles on a motorcycle in the US and Canada. He was currently a member of Ozarks Antique Automobile Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Clyde and Fae Sims, his sister Maxine, daughter-in-law Diane E. Norbury and his grandson Hayes Morgan Norbury.
Jerry leaves behind his wife Helen, his son Preston and wife Kay, grandchildren Ivy Norbury and Jack Yates, her fiancé of Auckland, N.Z., Curtis Norbury and his partner Alex Scott of Rogersville, MO, Tyler Norbury and his fiancé Jennifer Yeager of Springfield, twin grandchildren Max Cole Norbury of Springfield and Roni Kay Norbury of Kansas City. (Max and Roni shared their birthday with their grandpa, October 22. He loved sharing his birthday with them.) His sister Betty Lewis of Springfield and brother Bradford Norbury and wife Regina, of Arnett, OK. Also, four great grandchildren Makai and Elaine Purcell, Lyla and Skarlet Yates all residing in New Zealand. His sister and brother-in-law Sherry (Sims) Dahmer and Jim Dahmer. Many nieces and nephews that he dearly loved, and they loved him in return. One very special niece, she will know who she is. Plus, the many friends that he and Helen made through their years of square dancing, riding motorcycles and playing with antique cars.
At his request, there will be no funeral service. A celebration visitation will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral home Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. A private interment will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to Seasons Hospice, 1831 W. Melville Rd., Springfield, MO 65803 or Care to Learn, 1740 S. Glenstone, Ste R, Springfield, MO 65804. Please note in memory of Jerry Norbury.
