Jerry Wayne Mitchell, 78, of Springfield, passed away October 31, 2017 in Cox South Hospital.

He worked many years for Springfield Newspapers.
Jerry was a Native American and a member of the Potawatomi Nation.

He is survived by his wife, Sonia; daughter, Jerri Sue Fry; and son, Tracy Wayne Mitchell; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Jack Courtney; and brother, Ola R. Mitchell.

Funeral service will be held at 10am, Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Maple Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 to 10am, Saturday, prior to the service in the funeral home.
