Jeanne was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on September 26, 1927, the daughter of John Thomas Nesbitt and Edith Reynolds Nesbitt. She grew up in Overland Park, Kansas and graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School.  Jeanne attended the University of Missouri in Columbia where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.  While attending Mizzou Jeanne met the love of her life, David Robert Toombs. Their courtship did not begin until after college, but married shortly thereafter on September 22, 1951 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  It was at this time Springfield then became Jeanne's hometown for the next 71 years. Jeanne and Dave were married for 60 years, until his passing in 2011. Into their union, two children were born, Robert N. Toombs and Sara Toombs Krutsinger.

They supported numerous community organizations including the Davenport Society, Jefferson Club and Friends of the MU Libraries at the University of Missouri.

Jeanne will be remembered for her love of friendships, and always remaining connected.  She was interested in their lives, families, activities.  To know her was to love her, as she always would ask a million questions of everyone and loved being a part of so many close and very dear friendships throughout her life. As her eyesight diminished in her later years she was not able to participate with her friends and family, but she always knew they were there and kept them close to her heart.
