Obituary

Jeanne Flett Pickett, 93, died January 19, 2016 at her home in Springfield, MO. She was born Sept. 11, 1922 in Salem, MO, and was graduated from West Plains High School. Jeanne met Ben Pickett at a church dance in West Plains in 1942 and they were married March 28, 1945 in Weatherford, TX.   Their happiness together continued for nearly 70 years until his death in 2011. Jeanne and Ben and family moved to Springfield in 1958. While her children were young, Jeanne was a homemaker and volunteer for their schools. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Bill Dameron Motor Specialty and Rex Ray's Service Center.   She retired from the latter position in 1986, and was a contract bookkeeper until 2002. Jeanne's lifelong love of both vocal and instrumental music began in her childhood. She was a member of the Ozark Belles chapter of the Sweet Adelines and was a longtime member of choirs at Grace and Wesley United Methodist churches. Jeanne is survived by daughter Deborah K. Hanson of Villa Park, IL, son Gary F. of Springfield, and many nieces and nephews.   Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, January 24 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole, and the funeral service will be held there on Monday, January 25, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Stockton, MO.
