Obituary

Jeanne Kensinger Myers, age 87, of Springfield, Missouri passed away on June 21, 2021 in Springfield, Missouri. She was born in Rogersville, Missouri, grew up in Northview, and attended Marshfield schools.

She met the love of her life by joining a letter writing campaign to bolster the morale of soldiers in Korea. Her letter just happened to end up in the hands of Patrick Bernard Myers. Several letters later they met, courted, and then married in August of 1952. They moved to Ohio and raised four sons.

She returned to Springfield with the four boys after the sudden death of her husband in February 1971. She lived in the same house for the next 50 years where she filled her yard with the flowers she loved.

Jeanne was a dedicated St, Louis Cardinals fan from the age of 9 when she listened to them on the radio.

The history and plight of Native Americans was one of her great interests. Soccer was another great interest of hers from the time she watched all of her grandchildren play till the day before she passed when she was watching an ESL game. She loved being the grandma that brought snacks and drinks and then drove her grandchildren and their friends home from practice.

A voracious reader of all kinds of literature from biographies to fiction and politics to history, she had books in every room of her house.

Her house was immaculate always and her yard was well groomed. She was proud of that and made sure no blade of grass was missed by the boys. She commented when we told her that her house had sold, "They won't find a cleaner stove or refrigerator anywhere!" That was a true statement.

Our whole family will always be blessed with many happy memories of giant family gatherings at Jeanne's house for pumpkin carving in October and Christmas parties in December along with the great times we had with her at Steve and Jean's Thanksgivings.

Jeanne was a proud lifelong member of the Democrat Party.

Preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Bernard Myers; son, Wayne Patrick Myers; parents, Lee "Bud" and Minnie (Barton) Kensinger; brother-in-law, Jesse Elmer Thomas and nephew, Jesse Eugene Thomas.

Survived by her sister, Betty Jo (Kensinger) Thomas; sons, Patrick Myers (Helen), Michael Myers (Nancy Baker) and Christopher Myers (Vickie); Daughter-in-law, Marietta Myers; Nephews, Steve (Jean) Thomas, and Jesse Thomas Granddaughter, Megan (Myers) Bradley; Grandsons, Patrick Myers, Matthew Myers and Andy Myers; Great Grandchildren, Wyatt Myers, Aiden Bradley and Evan Bradley; Nieces, Jessica (Thomas) and Neil Loughran, and Morgan (Thomas), Herman and baby Maggie Li, and Liz Thomas.

Jeanne's family wish to give many thanks to all the heroes who work at Springfield Rehab and Healthcare Center, who even working through a pandemic managed to provide outstanding care with thoughtfulness and respect.

She is greatly loved and will be forever remembered by all her friends and family.
