Jeanette (Jay) S. Hinz died peacefully at her home on August 14, 2017 at the age of 90. She is survived by her daughter Jan Hinz of Belvidere, IL and her son Peter Hinz of Reston, VA. She is preceded in death by her husband, William L. Hinz.

Jay was an artist and art educator who spent her life recording the beauty of the world around and inside her for others to enjoy. She received her BFA and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She taught at the middle school, high school and college levels in Illinois, Missouri and Mexico, ending her teaching career at Missouri State University. She inspired generations of students with her boundless creativity and drive to achieve perfection in her work. She was also an animal lover who adopted many dogs in need of a loving home.

A graveside service will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
