Jaunita June Smoot, 88 of Springfield, Missouri passed away at 6:04 PM Saturday, June 20, 2009 in St. John's Hospital in the company of her family. Jaunita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed. She grew up in Sapulpa, Oklahoma and was half Creek Indian, she was very proud of her Indian heritage. Jaunita was a registered nurse and worked many years as a maternity nurse. She was married for 66 wonderful years to Madison who passed away in 2007. She was a member of St. Agnes Cathedral. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Maggie Bruner Simpkins, and her son, Roger Smoot. Jaunita is survived by her daughter, Karen Nibert of Nixa; three grandchildren, Amy Lawrence and husband, Mike of Springfield, Melanie Nibert of Springfield, and Nick Nibert of Nixa; three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Kaylee and Maddy Lawrence. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 10:00 AM in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with The Reverend Thomas Reidy, officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM in Park Grove Cemetery, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 PM in the funeral home.
