IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janice
Cissell
December 29, 1950 – June 22, 2025
Janice Dawn Cissell (Billings)
December 29, 1950 – June 22, 2025
Janice Dawn Cissell, 74, of Springfield, Missouri, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 22, 2025. She was born on December 29, 1950, in Kansas City, Missouri, and lived a life grounded in faith, family, and service to others.
Janice grew up in the Rosedale area of Kansas City and graduated in 1968 from Shawnee Mission South High School, proudly part of its first-ever graduating class. From a young age, Janice was known as the responsible one in her family—a steady, guiding presence who took great pride in helping those around her stay on the right path. That sense of purpose and care stayed with her throughout her life.
Janice worked for many years as a secretary, where her organizational skills and attention to detail were highly respected. But her life's true calling was in ministering to others. A longtime member of Central Assembly of God, Janice and her beloved husband, Roger Lee Cissell, shared a deep commitment to their faith and to serving others. They were married for 41 years and were an inseparable team—encouraging, laughing, and walking through life together with grace and love. Their work in the church's Alpha Course touched many lives, and Janice also served faithfully through Bible Study Fellowship.
Janice's faith was quiet but unwavering, always shown more through action than words. Friends often said she embodied "faith in action"—loyal, compassionate, dependable, and true. She made time for people, listened deeply, and could talk with anyone about life, faith, or simply how their day was going. If she said she'd do something, she did it. She stood up for what was right, even when it was hard.
She was deeply devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made sure everyone was okay, well-fed, and cared for. Her kitchen was always warm with the smell of something delicious, and no one ever left hungry. She also had a playful side and a deep love for animals—over the years, she shared her home with many cherished dogs and cats, including Toby, Buffy, Dusty, and Lucy. A lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan, Janice cheered for her team through good years and bad, never wavering in her loyalty—just like in every other part of her life.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lee Cissell; her parents, Del Ray Billings and Wanda Colleen Billings (Putman); her sister, Lori Beth McCulley (Billings); and her brothers, Dan Warren Billings and Dave Del Billings.
She is survived by her sons, Brian Shawn Dellinger and Brad Allan Dellinger (wife Jennifer), both of Springfield, MO; stepdaughter Tammy Lynn Bills (Cissell) and husband Jeff of Woodland, CA; stepson Steven Lee Cissell and wife Christal of Myrtle Beach, SC; 11 grandchildren; and 3½ great-grandchildren. Her family will forever cherish the strength, kindness, and faith she instilled in them.
Visitation will take place on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Central Assembly of God (1301 N. Boonville Ave, Springfield, MO) at 10:00 a.m., with a celebration of life service to follow at 11:00 a.m., under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will take place the next day, Tuesday, July 1st, at 11:00 a.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AlphaUSA.org in Janice's honor—an organization close to her heart and her ministry.
To know Janice was to be welcomed, cared for, and encouraged. Her legacy of faith, family, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
