Obituary

Janice P. Barclay, a delightful friend to all who knew her, departed this life on February 28, 2013 after a courageous, nine year battle with Colorectal Cancer. She was born April 16, 1937, to Vern and Esther Hall of Monett, Missouri. Jan graduated from Monett High School and attended Southwest Missouri State College. Jan spent many years as an active member of the Junior League of Springfield, was a past chairman of the Charity Ball and was a past volunteer of the reading program at Eugene Field Elementary. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling and staying physically fit. Jan also loved attending MSU Bears' Games and supplied many home-cooked meals to players of the past. Jan's life was devoted to her grandchildren and many friends from all walks of life. She made a vocation of these pursuits and was always there when anyone needed her. During her many hospital stays and doctor's office visits, she saw her role not only as a patient, but as a friend to all who were helping her fight her battle. Jan lived every day of her life to the limit of her endurance. The words that best describe Jan are enjoyable, caring, capable, quick and TOUGH! She believed in Jim Valvano's quote "Don't give up- Don't ever give up!" Jan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband William E. (Bill) Barclay; a son, Charles A. Rose and his wife Abbi of Springfield; a sister Vicki Hall of Lakewood, Colorado; and grandchildren Chaz A. Rose and Chance A. Rose of Springfield, Austin & Lindsay Barclay of Little Rock and Turner Sibley of Nashville, Tennessee. Jan was also very close to Bill's children W.E. (Butch) Barclay of Little Rock, Arkansas; Nancy Ann Beavers of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; and Becky Carnathan of Helena, Arkansas. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Ashish Chowfin, M.D., Carla Langston, R.N., Oxford Hospice, Leatha West, Rita Joyner, Mary Alice Grissum and the "Kindergarten Five" for their great care of Jan. In addition, they would like to give thanks to all of the special friends who provided the numerous meals to the family during Jan's illness. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, March 4, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, 1947 E. Seminole. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the MSU Bears Fund, c/o Missouri State University Foundation, Kenneth E. Meyer Alumni Center, 300 S. Jefferson, Suite 100, Springfield, MO 65806.
