Obituary

Janet Ann Wingo died in her home, Saturday, March 18 after a valiant battle against lung cancer.  She was 73.  Her devotion to her family and unwavering faith in God supported and comforted her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

Janet was born March 26, 1943 to the late Edward and Helen Russell in Springfield, Missouri.  She worked in the medical field for a number of years before her retirement in 1993.  Later in life, she began volunteering with the Caring People and served as chairperson of the ministry's Springfield area operation for over 10 years.  She worked diligently to bring the joy of knowing Jesus into the lives of single mothers. Among her other charitable endeavors was her time with the PEO Sisterhood, an international women's organization with a primary focus on providing educational opportunities for female students. Janet graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1961 and continued her education as a student in the Burge School of X-Ray Technology leading to certification as an X-Ray Technician.  She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church and an avid participant in Bible Study Fellowship.

Janet was known for her open, caring demeanor and made a new friend with every person she met.  She loved road trips with her husband, shopping with girlfriends and days spent enjoying laughs, smiles and kind words with her family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Gary Wingo; her children, Jeffrey Wingo, Shelley Lofaro, daughter-in-law Patty Wingo, and son-in-law Michael Lofaro; four grandchildren, Katherine Wingo, Kelsey Wingo, Alex Lofaro and Bailey Lofaro; and one brother, Terry Russell and sister-in-law Iva Russell.  Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carole Teeslink.

A visitation service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 5pm to 7pm.  Funeral services under the arrangement of Gorman Scharpf will be conducted at the church on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 10am.  Pastor Scott Bailey-Kirk will officiate the service.

Memorial donations can be made to The Caring People, 164 Corporate Place, Branson, MO 65616 or via www.thecaringpeople.org .  The family graciously declines casseroles for Gary, but prayers, condolences and sharing of memories are gladly accepted via www.gormanscharpf.com or glwjaw@att.net.
