IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janet Dean
Tendai
August 11, 1938 – December 9, 2021
8/11/1938-12/9/2021
Janet Tendai, 83, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away in her home surrounded by her loved ones on December 9, 2021. Janet was born August 11,1938 to Stanley and Opal Bryson in Columbia, Missouri. While working at the University Medical Center, she met her future husband, Mark M. Tendai. After marrying on June 21, 1963, the couple moved several times early on but ended up settling in Springfield where they spent the rest of their lives together. During their marriage, Mark maintained a medical practice, while Janet honed her management and business skills. Several family businesses she enjoyed were: Managing her husband's medical office, opening and managing "Nanny's Playschool"; keeping her teenage children busy working at her ice cream and popcorn shop called "Pop and Treats"; managing their family owned "Healthcare Journal" company; managing son, Mark's business, "Metro Housing Properties", and in her spare time, managing/overseeing numerous rental properties the family owned. Janet was a shrewd businesswoman and people knew she could negotiate a deal and bargain better than anyone around her!
Janet and Mark raised two children, Jeanette Lee Tendai and Mark M. Tendai III. Mark followed in his mother's footsteps and had a successful career in business and real estate, while Jeanette followed her dreams and became an educator. Janet loved her family with an intensity that was evident to everyone who knew her. She found most joy spending time with them at home or going out to eat.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Opal Bryson, her husband Dr. Mark M. Tendai II and her son, Mark M. Tendai III.
She is survived by her daughter Jeanette Tendai, grandchildren Mark B. and Audrey A. Tendai and her son-in-law Ramon Mendoza.
