Obituary

Janet Louise (Allen) Fithian passed away peacefully Friday, March 26 th , 2021 at her home in Springfield, Missouri. She was surrounded by loved ones including her loving caregivers Debbie Crosswhite, Sarah Almendarez, Paula Ford and Morgan Morrison who were devoted to her care over the past few years. We give great thanks to these amazing, caring, loving ladies that mom was able to stay in the home she loved. They were a huge blessing to mom and all her family!!

Janet was born in Kansas City, Kansas on November 30, 1932 to Alice (Timmer) Allen and George R. Allen, Jr. She graduated from Barstow School in Kansas City before attending The University of Kansas where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. While in Lawrence, she met William (Bill) R. Luckfield, III. They married in August of 1952 and had three children, Lynn Luckfield (Larry) Burk, William R. (Rick) Luckfield, IV and Sara Luckfield (Sam) Castorani.

Hosting and attending social functions in Springfield and Arizona were great loves of Jan's. She also loved attending the Symphony, playing bridge, and dining out with close friends. Jan was a long-time contributor to the Springfield Zoo, Art Museum, Springfield Girl Scouts as well as many other organizations. She was a member of Hickory Hills Country Club where she enjoyed playing tennis.  Jan was also an active member of King's Way United Methodist Church for the past 30 years.

Over the years, Jan traveled overseas many times. She definitely loved learning the history and stories the world had to tell. Jan also "wintered" in Arizona for many years and that is where she met her second husband Bob Fithian. They were married on June 1, 1991 and experienced many adventures together. They spent time traveling the continent in their motor home, enjoying time in Branson, MO and spending winters in Tucson, AZ where they made many dear friends. Jan loved the desert and admired the Arizona art and culture. While in Arizona Jan got the opportunity to reconnect with first cousins Dody Tait and Sally Garramone, who survive her.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 14 years, Robert (Bob) Fithian, her parents, her sister Mildred (Mid) Martin and Mid's husband, Walter Martin, daughter-in-law Kimberly (Kim) Luckfield and son-in-law Kenneth Kershaw.  Jan also had two very dear aunts that she considered her second mothers, Mildred (Timmer) Martz and Louise A. Timmer.  In addition to her children, she left behind many loving family members, including her grandchildren Brent Burk, Sean Burk, Nicholas (Katie) Luckfield, Brandi (Jonathan) Williams, Rylea Luckfield, Kristine Kershaw and Kurtis Kershaw. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Marcie and Leon Luckfield, and Kylyn, Sasha, Killian and Ronin Williams. Also surviving are Bob's children Peg Fithian Wilson, Bill Fithian and Betsy Fithian, who were all dear to her.  We would like to thank Compassus Hospice, the wonderful care and support they provided to mom and to the family over the last two months.
