James L. Thomas, known by his close friends as Mr. T., had a tragic fall and courageously chose to leave his earthly body Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Born December 14, 1951 to William "Billy Ray" Thomas and Betty Frizzell Thomas. Jim was a loving son, a devoted husband, a father and grandfather. As a member of the Baha'i Faith he strived to be better himself each day and teach others about the eternal love of God. Jim was a sports fan, talented musician and a natural entertainer. He never missed an opportunity to make others laugh. He is survived by his wife, Lora Stewart Thomas; his children, Bill Thomas and Amy Thomas of Telluride, Colorado; his son-in-law, Josh Gallun; and his grandson, Judah James Thomas, both also of Telluride; sisters-in-law, Susan Stewart Daniel and family of Springfield; Tracey Stewart and family of Windemere, Florida; and a sister, Kay Catlett and family of Akron, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2009 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, 1947 East Seminole, Springfield. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, 2244 East Pythian. The family would like to extend an invitation to celebrate Jims life at Millwood Golf and Racquet Club, 3700 East Millwood Drive following the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Jim Thomas Memorial Fund at Commerce Bank. The proceeds will benefit The Baha'i Faith and the Mighty Might's football program.
