IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Lee
Shields, Jr.
August 5, 1954 – October 31, 2025
James Lee Shields, Jr. went to his heavenly home on October 31, 2025, at 4:13 AM. He passed peacefully at Cox South Medical Center with his wife at his bedside.
He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 5, 1954, to James Lee Shields, Sr. and Marie Shields. He was one of seven children. He was 27 minutes older than his twin who was a big surprise.
Jim's proudest accomplishment was being a Marine for eight years. He and his brother both enlisted between their Junior and Senior years of high school and went to boot camp right after graduation. He attended college in California after he was discharged from the Marines studying law enforcement. When he returned to Missouri, he had an array of different jobs. One of his favorites was being a chef. He always loved to cook for his family.
He was the oldest son and would do anything for his siblings, nieces and nephews. He loved family game nights, yearly float trips, and any time spent with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and cousin, Doug Lafoon.
Jim is survived by his wife of seven years, Mary Zoe; her three children, Brian (Evonna) Gaba of Springfield, MO, Becky (Jeremy) Richardson of Davison, Michigan and Josh Gaba of Springfield, MO; six grandchildren, Zoey, Jade and Toby Gaba all of Springfield, MO, Alex (Anna) Richardson, Alyson Richardson, Caleb (Amelia) Richardson all of Davison, Michigan; along with three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. He is also survived by his son, Benjamin Matthew Good (Amy) of Cameron Park, California and his daughter, Sabrina Lynn Smith (Tim) of Susanville, California; and six grandchildren. Also surviving are six siblings Rita Cohen, twin Jerry Shields, both of Springfield, MO, Tim Shields (Jackie), of Sumner Washington, Malinda Nakamura (Lee Plemmons) of Willard, MO, Tony (Maria) Shields of Ozark, MO, and Robin (Cary) Graham of Springdale, AR. He had many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews that he loved dearly and was extremely proud of.
He was especially proud of his nephew, Jay (Hayley) Shields and their children. Jay followed the family tradition of joining the armed services. He made a career of the Army reaching the rank of 1st Sergeant.
Jim loved watching great-nieces Akira, Ares, and Athena at archery competitions. He had many cousins and friends who will miss him.
Graveside Service will be held Monday, November 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Missouri Veterans Cemetery with Rev. Richard Rogers officiating.
