Obituary

James Davis Scroggins James was born September 9, 1927 to Reed and Ethel Scroggins of Polk County Missouri. He was the youngest of four children. Morris was the eldest, then Robert, then Jenny (Gage). James attended Hickory Point School early on then moved to Bolivar High School and finished high school at Springfield High (Central). After graduation he served his country as an MP in the Army in Korea during the Occupation. James met his bride Margaret Hindman at Springfield High School in the class of '45. They were together until two years ago at Margaret's passing. He was also preceded in death by his infant son David. He is survived by by three sons: Terry and his wife RaDonna of Springfield,MO, Dennis and his wife Saundra of Ashland, MO and Randy and his wife Jeana of Ashgrove, MO , eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. James and family have lived in Springfield, Richland and Lebanon Missouri. One of the treasures he took from life was his vast number of friends of all stripes. Whether a prince or a pauper he treated them all as equals not letting their station in life affect his opinion of them. In fact one of his sons told him after being asked to go out to supper with him and Margaret that he would go as long as he wasn't introduced to anyone. James was affiliated with the Southern Baptist by church and was active for years in the music programs. In the fifties he along with Bob Prescott, Glen Willard and Dale Benton sang for Grant Avenue Church on their radio program. Using his gift of singing, he lead the singing at numerous revivals always singing "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Once he remarked from the church platform that his best friends had been made in church. He was a salesman by trade. Whether traveling or staying close he always worked with the public through sales. James passing has left a void in our lives that will remain. At least we had him for a while. We will see him again. Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 11am with visitation beginning at 10am in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Private family interment will be in Slagle Cemetery.
