James M. Joyce passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of July 14, 2014. He was born January 14, 1927 to John and Bridget Joyce in St. Louis where he grew up. He is mourned by his wife Irma; his daughter Dr. Cindy Warren and Dr. Douglas Warren, Carolyn, David and Rebecca Warren and by his son Dr. James M. Joyce II and Barbara Joyce and J. Michael Joyce III. At age 16 during World War II, Jim enlisted in the Merchant Marine and sailed to northern European ports. Later he became a pilot in the Air Force and then graduated from the University of Missouri. During a long career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., he was transferred to Springfield. Upon leaving Bell, he established Golf Car and Equipment Co., Inc. Jim was an avid golfer, playing at Twin Oaks Country Club. He also enjoyed fishing, rose gardening and duck hunting. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
