James Joseph "Jim" Haik, Sr., age 81 passed away at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 at his home in Fremont Hills. Jim was born October 29, 1928 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Joseph and Mary Kouri Haik, the oldest of 13 children. His family moved to Springfield in 1937 when his father established Haiks, Inc., a wholesale fabrics business. He graduated from St. Agnes High School and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was released early on a hardship basis and given an Honorable Discharge after the sudden heart attack of his father in 1950 so that he could return home and help support his mother and siblings. Jim retired from the family business in 1999. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Ozark. Jim loved God, his family and his church and was devoted to all three his entire life. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, June; sons Jim (Cheryl) Haik Jr., Mark Haik and Rick (Kris) Haik; daughters Pamela Haik Clark and Cynthia (Patrick) McCaffrey; six brothers; four sisters; 11 grandchildren, Jameson (Garri) Clark, Justin Clark, James (Janelle) Haik, Anthony Haik, Abbi and Andrew Harris, Raven, Brittany and Kendra Haik, Richie and Rachel Haik; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010 in Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with the Reverend Paul J McLoughlin, Celebrant, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Private burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. Prayer service followed by a visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Hospice Care, 1570 W Battlefield, Springfield, Mo 65807. A luncheon will be served in the church immediately following the service.
