Obituary

James (Jim) D. White, born in Tennessee, February 4, 1930, to Arthur Jackson White Sr. and Euna Mae Parman White, passed away, August 21, 2024, at the age of 94 in Springfield, Missouri.  He was united in marriage to Betty Collins, April 18, 1954, and they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Jim was a proud United States Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of White's Appliance, where he was known for his quick assistance to the elderly and those in need.  As a dedicated church member, he and his wife Betty prioritized church, family, and faith, ensuring their children were raised and nurtured in the Baptist church.  Jim was also a talented woodworker, filling his family's homes with his creations (and was buried with all his fingers).  He was an avid fisherman, harmonica player, and had a great sense of humor with a quick smile.  Jim often coached softball with his kids.  He enjoyed building and maintaining his children's go-kart for hours of fun for both he and his kids.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Euna Mae White; siblings Wesley (Dorothy) White, Euna (Ray) Carter, Clair (Andy) Flatt, Ruth (Roy) Russell, Nell (Bill) Moore, Thomas (Maggie) White, and Jack (Linda) White, and granddaughter Hannah Harwood.

He is survived by his wife, Betty White, daughter Cheryle (Randy) Harwood, son J. Matthew (Rita) White, grandchildren Ericka (Ryan) Baxter, Jonathan (Erin) Harwood, Adam White, Benji (Ran) White, and Caleb (Hannah) White, great-grandchildren Aryanna Baxter, Adelynn Baxter, Jesse Baxter, Trace Baxter, Emme Baxter, Ezra Harwood, and Stasia Harwood. He will be greatly missed by all.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Road, Springfield, MO 65804, officiated by Randall Harwood. Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 6-7 PM at the funeral home.
