James (Jim) D. Austin, 84, passed away on March 28, 2020 in Springfield, MO.  He was born March 14, 1936 in Hutchinson, KS to Easley F. and Kathryn M. Austin.

Jim graduated from Buhler High School (outside of Hutchinson, KS).  He continued over the years to cherish his friendships with his many classmates.  After graduation, Jim joined the U.S. Air Force and was awarded an honorable discharge.  During his service in Topeka, KS, he met and married Delores M. Cook at the First United Methodist Church in Topeka.  They were married 62 years.

Jim is survived by his wife Delores and his three children:  Tim S. Austin (Susie); Cindy E. McLauchlin (Kevin), and Eric S. Austin (Amy).   Also surviving Jim are five grandchildren: Jesse Austin (Rebecca); Brett Austin; Ryan McLauchlin (Carolyn); Rachel McLauchlin; Kate Gerhart (Alex); and four great-grandchildren:  Luke, Bryce, and Caroline Austin; and Lola McLauchlin.

Preceding Jim in his passing were his parents, three sisters: Roma Robertson, Verna Fell, and Mary D. House.

Jim and Delores have had many, many Methodist Church families and cherish those ties with each church family.   Jim's world consisted of traveling, music, and cars -- If there had been a "New Car Club" he would have been elected President and re-elected for the next 60 years.  Most importantly, he loved children.   Therefore, his family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Lives Under Construction Boys Ranch, 296 Boys Ranch Rd, Lampe, MO 65681 and St. Jude Affiliate Clinic at Mercy Children's Hospital, 1235 E. Cherokee, Springfield, MO  65804.  A memorial service will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home and announced at a later date.
