Obituary

James F. Compton December 3, 2010 at age 69 in Springfield. Survived by his loving wife Rosmarie (Romy), sons Daniel (Jolle Kirpensteijn) of Utrecht, Netherlands; Steven (Lisa) of Willard; grandchildren Zachary and Brooke of Willard; brother John (Kathy) of Bonita Springs, FL; nephews Scott (Michele) of Bemis Point, NY, and David (Rachel) of Rochester, NY; several cousins and many dear friends. Born in Rochester, NY, Jim was a graduate of Morrisville State College, Morrisville, NY. Thereafter, he served in the Army as a Military Policeman stationed in Stuttgart, Germany where he met and married Romy. After his discharge, Jim and Romy returned to Rochester where he began his career with the RT French Co. He and his family moved to Springfield in 1972 where he continued to work for the RT French Co. In 1987, Jim and Romy began operating ServiceMaster of Springfield, a business they successfully ran for nearly 20 years. Whether building things in his workshop, remodeling the house, or landscaping the yard, Jim loved working with his hands. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Germany to visit Romy's family and to Hawaii, a favorite vacation spot for both. More than anything Jim loved his family, enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren develop and was sustained by the deep and abiding love of his wife. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The funeral service will be held on at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 9 in the Chapel at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Children's Cancer Society.
