Obituary

Mr. James Scott Chalmers, age 73, of Springfield, passed away on June 9, 2018 surrounded by family.

Scott was a brilliant man whose wit and wisdom was matched only by his kindness, integrity, and faith in God. Our loving memories of Scott will forever live in our hearts.

He was born on February 11, 1945 in Springfield, Missouri, to the late Marcella and Max Chalmers. As a true son of Springfield, Scott played baseball on the Odd Fellows baseball team and graduated from Parkview High School. He was a Drury University graduate where he pledged Sigma Nu and met his beloved wife, Joyce. Following college, he served in the Navy as a cryptologist during the Vietnam War at the China Station in Tai Pei. He went on to lead a successful career as an executive in shipping firms and financial management, retiring in Benicia, CA where he lived with his family for 31 years. In retirement, Scott fostered a love of travelling, gourmet cooking, and home brew. Scott made his Christian faith an important part of his life and, upon returning to Springfield in 2017, he attended Trinity Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years and 7 months, Joyce Chalmers; son, Casey Chalmers, son, Adam Chalmers and his wife Joy, and grandchildren, Liam and Cameron; sisters, Cynthia Oliver and Claire Priller.

We invite friends and family to pay their respects on Friday, June 15. Viewing begins at 10 a.m. followed by a celebration of life service at 11 a.m., officiated by Rev. William Marler at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1415 S. Holland Ave., Springfield. Military honors to follow at 2 p.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Services under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.

The Chalmers family would like to thank the staff at Cox North Hospital and later Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis for the wonderful care and kindnesses shown to Scott and his family.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in Scott's name to The Lymphoma and Leukemia Society, Mid-America Chapter.
