Obituary

Jacquelyn (Jackie) Gahm, age 88, passed away Monday, August 8, 2016 in her home after a long illness. She was born September 20, 1927 in Independence, KS to Emerson Francis and Elinore Simmons Cook. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband JT, two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Gahm and Susan Kay Gahm and one grandchild, Jason Simpson. She is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Wheat of Friendswood, TX and Rosalind Foley of Lafayette, LA; sister-in-laws Charla Hogue of Phoenix, AZ and Colleen and husband Roger White of Carthage, MO; son Richard Gahm of Billings, MO; daughters Nancy Simpson of Republic, MO, Sarah Britain and husband Pat of Everton, MO. Also surviving are grandchildren Danielle and husband Chance Roper of Salem, Ark, Jack Taylor Gahm of Great Falls, MT, John Simpson and wife Erin of Republic, Mo, Sarah Simpson and partner Todd Johnson of Springfield, MO, Carolyn and husband Jerry Hamilton of Republic, MO, Hannah and husband Beau Simpson of Willard, MO and Mike Gahm of Sandpoint, ID; great-grandchildren Christian and Hadley Hamilton, Ava Jane Simpson and McKayla Simpson.

She graduated from Magnolia High School in Magnolia, AR. Shortly after WWII her mother, while working for the Fruehauf Trailer Company in Springfield, introduced her to her future husband JT, who was also working in the engineering department. They were married within a year. Mom and Dad spent the next four years with JT working for Fruehauf Trailer Company in Missouri and California. In 1951 they returned to Springfield where they raised their family and JT began work for Custom Trailers. She loved her family and put them above all else. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, playing bridge, being a part of the Council of Catholic Women, the art group of SMMA and the lunch bunch. She was a former member of Immaculate Conception Church, Springfield, St. Susanne's Catholic Church in Mt Vernon, MO and was currently a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Springfield.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 11th from 5-7 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 9:00 a.m. Friday, August 12th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Springfield with Rev J. Fergus Monaghan celebrant. Burial will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
