Jacqueline Holt Powell was born October 18, 1922 in Aurora, Mo. to Dr. Charles B. and Sara Holt. She passed away March 26, 2010 in her home surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dr. E.M. Powell, her four children, Dr. J. Robin Powell, New York City; Sara Powell, New York City; Walter and Stephany Powell, Springfield; Carey and Michal Powell, Florida; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and her sister Bettye Holt Vogel. The Holt family moved to Springfield in 1927. Jackie attended McDaniel Elementary, Jarrett Middle School and Springfield High School where she was a member of the Kilties and played the bag pipes. She attended Drury College for one year and became a member of Phi Beta Phi sorority. She graduated from Springfield Teachers College with a degree in Home Economics. She taught school for one year in Sarcoxie and two years in Memphis, Tenn. She married PFC Mac Powell in 1944. They returned to Springfield with their family and she was able to pursue her many interests. A very accomplished musician, Jackie was concert mistress of the 1940 orchestra receiving a national award with a one rating. She played violin with the Springfield Symphony from 1944-1994. Jackie was an avid golfer and tennis player, and was a member of Twin Oaks Country Club. She played on 8 Horton Smith Cup Teams and was club champion in 1965. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 29th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with a graveside service to be held Tuesday, March 30th at 11 a.m. at Maple Park Cemetery.
