IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jack E.
Snow, Dvm
August 20, 1939 – February 21, 2023
Jack E. Snow, DVM – Dedicated and cherished husband, father of two, grandfather of 5, and great grandfather of 1 was loved by his family, so many animals, and friends - passed away on February 21, 2023, at the age of 83 in Springfield, Missouri.
Jack ("All American Boy") was born to Eugene V. and Helen M. Snow in Sterling, Illinois on August 20, 1939. He grew up in Sterling with a very close family of 2 brothers, Wayne and Dennis Snow and his sister Cheryl Snow Hollenberg. Their home was a revolving door where many aunts, uncles and cousins came to spend many joyful moments together. Jack often said he was a "Lucky Guy" to have such a beautiful family.
After graduation from high school, Jack joined the Airforce serving as a medic for 4 years and was stationed at March Airforce Base in California. He discovered as a medic his love for medicine and wanted to make it his career. Since he was a young boy Jack loved animals, so it was natural for him to blend his passion for medicine and his love for animals to become a veterinarian.
He attended and graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, becoming a veterinarian to small animals and occasionally wild ones like pigeons, squirrels, deer and so many more. Jack was compassionate about all living things, so much so he devoted his career to saving and nurturing many animals that never would have made it without him. As a young teenager, Jack even fostered a young red fox. He truly was "Nature Boy." He was a member of the American Veterinary Association and long-time owner of Angel Animal Hospital in Springfield, Mo.
Jack and his wife Sandy of 59 years built a beautiful family after marrying in September of 1963. They welcomed 2 daughters together, Heather in 1964 and Jill in 1969, 5 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Not only was Jack Snow the most wonderful, influential, soft yet stubborn soul, he was a caring grandpa, but he was a father figure to his grandchildren and what they thought of as a perfect man. He was the definition of how a man should be not only to his wife, his sister, brothers, but to his children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter. He taught his children and grandchildren specifically how to hold your composure even when the going gets tough. His grandchildren shared what were some of their most cherished times with Grandpa; going out to feed the horses, birds, deer, cats, dogs, swimming in the pool and "family meetings" on the patio, couch, and porch to long walks in the woods with him. They appreciate the work ethic he passed down to them as he was a hard worker and how kind-hearted he was. Can't forget how amazing he was at playing pool and ping pong, he never lost a game! If he did, it was because he gave it to you, finally he was known as the "Animal Whisperer", he convinced everyone he could talk to the deer and just kept it a secret!
To his daughters, he was their rock and the #1 Dad a girl could have. He set the bar for his daughters to always look up to.
Through the years, Jack never had a dull moment as he had many interests; woodworking, playing cards, spending time with his animals wild or domestic, playing pool, ping pong, horseshoes, eating burnt toast (he was the king), watermelon seed spitting contests, family trips, tinkering around the yard, long drives down backroads, playing tricks on his grandkids and pretending his grandkid's tricks fooled him which always made them laugh, listening to music of all kinds but his much-loved was the Blues. His preferred hobby, however, was spending time doing all his beloved activities with his spouse, children, grandchildren, siblings, and parents who were the most important to him over anything.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Helen, as well as his brothers Wayne and Dennis. He is survived by his wife, Sandy, their children Heather Gordon (Steve), Iowa City, IA; Jill Macchi of Springfield, MO; Children of Heather, grandchildren, McKenna, Anna & Landon Miller; Children of Jill, grandchildren, Cole Macchi & fiancé (Shelby Peterson), Megan Macchi; Great granddaughter, Ava Macchi; Sister, Cheryl Hollenberg (Norm), Sisters-in-Law, Sylvia Snow and Teresa Snow and many nieces and nephews.
