Obituary

JE Talbert, 92, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2026, with his loving wife, Lola, by his side.

JE was born on September 30, 1933, in Joplin, Missouri, to the late Carl and Odessa Talbert. He graduated from Springfield High School and SMSU before earning his CPA designation and becoming a member of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants. He built a highly respected CPA firm and served clients for more than 50 years. Throughout his career, he also traveled the country advising hotel developer John Q. Hammons on many of his hotel projects before retiring at the age of 84.

In 1957, he married the love of his life, Lola Taylor, and together they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, and friendship. They raised two children, Tracy Jet and Tamara Ann, in Springfield, where JE was known for his integrity, patience, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

JE was an avid sports fan who loved cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs. He especially enjoyed following the SMSU Bears basketball team and was a proud member of the Papa Bears Club. He also loved the game of golf and was a longtime member of Twin Oaks Country Club and later Millwood Country Club. One of his favorite traditions was his Thursday afternoon golf foursome with friends. Although naturally right-handed, JE golfed left-handed — something that always made him unique on the course. An accomplished golfer, he proudly made three holes-in-one over the years, a memory he always cherished.

JE and Lola were lifelong members of Schweitzer United Methodist Church. He accepted Christ at a young age and remained faithful throughout his life, quietly living out his values through kindness, humility, and service to others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Odessa Talbert; his sister, Janis Dickensheet; his nephew, David Dickensheet; and his beloved son, Tracy Talbert. The family finds comfort in knowing he is reunited with Tracy once again.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lola Talbert; his daughter, Tamara Blasi; his granddaughters, Tia Blasi, (fiance Chevy Redman) and CeCe Abdu (Feysel); his nephew, Steve Dickensheet (Myra); along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. JE was truly considered the patriarch of the family, someone everyone looked to for wisdom, strength, and steady love.

Some of JE’s happiest moments were spent traveling with family and friends, but the trips he treasured most were those shared with his granddaughters, who lovingly knew him as “Papa.” He adored his family and always made sure the people he loved felt safe, cared for, and supported.

We will forever miss this remarkable man — a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We thank God for the gift of his life and take peace in knowing he is now healed, restored, and home in Heaven.

A visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed by services at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, at Schweitzer Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Schweitzer Church or Rescue One in Springfield, Missouri.
