Dr. Ivon H. Lowsley, Jr., age 77 of Springfield, Missouri passed away suddenly at home on April 25, 2015. Ivon graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1960, received a Masters in Engineering (Civil) in 1966 and his PhD in 1973 from Johns Hopkins Univ. in Environmental Engineering Science. He was a professor at such institutions as Virginia Military Inst., Univ. of Missouri-Rolla, Virginia Tech and SMSU, where he retired as head of the Computer Science department. To his family, Ivon was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle. To the world, he was an amazing teacher, engineer, academic, patriot, Christian, counselor, philosopher and loyal friend. His passing would leave the world a poorer place were it not for his lifetime dedicated to making it a better place for all. Ivon is survived by his loving wife, June, four children, Hollyn, Trey, Lorna and Brooke, his cherished grandchildren, Cory, Odin, Tormaigh, Noah, Jonah, Asa, Luke, Drew and Addison, his sisters Linda Clawson and Vicki Powell and his brother John Lowsley. His beloved dog, Dolly, misses him terribly too. A short visitation with his family will be held at 9:00 am prior to the 9:30 service on May 1, 2015 at the First Evangelical Free Church, 5500 W. Southwood Rd., Springfield, MO, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Evangelical Free Building Fund.
