Obituary

Dr. Ivan D. Calton was born in Wright County, Missouri, near Grove Springs, on November 20, 1914, to George W. and Etta Calton. He passed from this life to his Heavenly home Wednesday, November 25, 2009. On June 1, 1941, he married the love of his life, Georgia York. During World War II he served with the 8th Air Force in England as an officer and Flying Meteorologist. In 1945, he was chosen to go to the Pentagon to formulate weather scouting in Japan. He retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Colonel in 1974. After the war, Ivan finished his Masters Degree and Doctorate at New York University. Upon completion, he and Georgia returned to the Ozarks and MSU where he taught Business and Statistics for the next 35 years. He was an avid Bears fan and supporter of the university that he deeply loved. Ivan and Georgia loved to travel and garden. He was proud of his prize winning roses. Ivan is survived by his wife, Georgia York Calton; several nieces and nephews, Irvin Bramhall, Robert Johnson, Dale Johnson, Keet Johnson, Paris Johnson, Grandville Looney, Nathan Looney, Madgelene Morris, George Williams, Alan York, Geneva Wallace, Kenneth York, Linda Holdman, Donna Williamson, Don York, and Mary Ann Jones; and friends, neighbors and former students. Funeral services will be Monday, November 30, 2009, at 10 a.m., in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, 1947 E. Seminole. Interment will be in Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in south Springfield. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his honor to the MSU Foundation at 901 S. National, Springfield, Missouri 65804.
