Major Ivan N. Breshears, (Ret.) Ivan N. Breshears, Jr., age 65 of Springfield, Missouri died on Wednesday, January 25th. He was born November 5, 1946 in Omak, Washington. He was a 1964 graduate of Parkview High School, and a 1969 graduate of SMS. Ivan married Mary Beth on August 11, 1967. In January 1969 he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. An Airborne Ranger, Ivan was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and served at many posts in the U.S. and West Germany. He retired from the Army in 1989 and became an elementary school teacher. He taught 4th and 5th grades at East Elementary in Waynesville and then Disney Elementary in Springfield. Following his second retirement Ivan worked as a substitute teacher, and volunteered at Wilson Creek National Battlefield. He loved to spend time with his family and to travel. There was always a project going and a book to read. He was an active member of King's Way UMC. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Breshears, Sr., Lucy Breshears and his father-in-law, Gordon Mayfield. He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth, daughter, Michele Breshears, daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Chris Hammon, grandchildren, Christopher and Lexie Hammon, sister and brother-in-law Joan and Tom Northrip, mother-in-law, Mary Lou Mayfield, aunt, Bonnie Shiveley, three nieces, many family members and friends Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 am and services at 11:00 am January 31, at King's Way United Methodist Church with the Reverends Yvi Martin and Fred Royer officiating. Burial will follow at Hazelwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to King's Way UMC's Missions Fund, 2401 S.
