Irene A. Bass, 90, of Springfield, MO passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012 in Cox South Hospital. Aunt "Nene" as she was affectionately known was born February 25, 1922 in Fort Smith, AR. She was a 1940 graduate of Springfield Sr. High School and later graduated from Draughon's Business College. She was an avid quilter, cook and gardener. She will be remembered for her bravery and sense of humor. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and long time supporter of St. Labre Indian School. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Bass; parents Arthur and Mabel Utley; three brothers William Bragg, Kenneth Holbrook and Thomas Holbrook; and three sisters Nora Rea, Mamie Weaver and Sadie Noyes. She is survived by her niece and caregiver Carol Sue Jones and husband Don; Son David Bass and wife Libby; lifetime friend Audrey Dorr; beloved neighbors Kay and Dennis McCann and Leota Morar; and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, November 30, 2012 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 12:00pm to 1:00pm Friday in the funeral home.
