Obituary

Dr. Iqbal Anwar, 71, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a mechanical engineer and a retired corporate executive, died February 6, 2009, in Chestnut Hill Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Becky Hoover Anwar; their son, David Anwar of Lincoln, Nebraska; one brother; three sisters; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Liz Sweet of Springfield, Missouri, and her family. When Dr. Anwar retired in 2005, he was vice-president of technology development at the Environmental Tectonics Corporation. He published extensively in the fields of aerodynamics, heat transfer mechanics and fluid mechanics. Among the numerous awards and recognitions for his achievements in mechanical engineering, he was named Engineer of the Year while employed at Franklin Institute Research Laboratory. Born in India and raised in Pakistan, Dr. Anwar came to the United States by way of England and Canada. He became an American citizen in 1984. He received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada. A graveside service was held in Springfield, Missouri, on Tuesday, February 10, in Maple Park Cemetery, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held March 2, in Chestnut Hill Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, Pa.
