Ila Mae Lines, 91, Springfield, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022. She was born May 17, 1931, in Grove Springs, Missouri, the daughter of Claude Newton and Iba Lee (Delk) Howell.
She graduated from Niangua High School as the school salutatorian, Sr. Class President, and Sr. Queen. She attended Southwest Missouri State Teachers College and then worked at the MFA exchange in Niangua, MO. She married the love of her life, Rev. Hubert Lines on September 7, 1952, and they enjoyed over 62 happy years together before his death in 2015. Ila and Hubert worked together for many years at First Christian Church in Monett, MO with him serving as pastor and her serving as church secretary. Upon retirement, Ila was an active member of National Avenue Christian Church in Springfield, MO and volunteered for over 30 years at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO.
Ila is survived by one sister, Mary Lou Edwards, her children and their families of Camdenton; two sons, Stephen Lines of Springfield; and Kim Lines and his wife, Linda of Monett; and; four grandchildren, Lance Lines and wife, Brittany Nicole; Rev. Dr. Caleb J. Lines and wife, Shawnna; Brittany Lines; and Jon Lines and wife, Destiny; four great-granddaughters, Aaliyah Mahoney, Kit Lines, Siena Lines, Scarlett Lines, and Rosie Lines; Niece, Lisa (Ron) Stokes & family, of Fair Grove; Nephew, Paul (Carrie) Lines & family, of Nixa.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 31 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. A service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, September 1 at National Avenue Christian Church with Rev. Jenn Simmons and Rev. Dr. Caleb J. Lines officiating. Burial will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Avenue Christian Church, 1515 South National Avenue, Springfield, MO 65804.
