Ida May Lewis at age 71, on Saturday, October 1st, 2011 embarked on her next adventure after valiantly fighting pancreatic cancer. She left on her journey from her home in Springfield, Missouri. Ida was born September 7, 1940 on the family farm in Morrow County, Ohio to Milton and Lulu Heimlich. Ida was the last of four children and the only daughter. On June 3, 1960, in Las Vegas, NV, Ida was married to Vance E. Lewis. Ida is an independent spirit, who never met a stranger and touched the hearts of all she met. She loved to travel and experience life. She was an avid gardener and made her home full of love, laughter, and life. Family members believe that Ida was one of the original super women, successfully balancing a job and family. Ida alleged that you could do anything you wanted but it was up to you to "just do it". Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Vance Lewis; her parents, Milton and Lulu Heimlich; her brothers, Joe and Dallas Heimlich; and her granddaughter, Stephanie Marie Lewis. Ida is survived by her brother, Wayne Heimlich, of Boyd, Texas; her daughters, Vanessa Virtue, Nannette Lewis; D.J. Butcher and son in law, James Butcher; her son, John Lewis; grandchildren, Emily, Jessie, Jacob, and Noah; and great grandchildren, Stephne and Alyson. Many family members and friends across the United States will miss her greatly. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2011 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.
