IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Howard G.
Moore
October 30, 1928 – August 24, 2022
Howard Groebe Moore, 93, Springfield, departed this life on August 24, 2022. He was born on October 30, 1928, in Cameron, Missouri, to Chesley G. Moore and Stella Marie Groebe.
He graduated from Cameron High School and received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Kansas. He was a proud lifelong Jayhawk.
Howard served as a 1 st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1956, and was stationed at Burtonwood Air Force Base, Warrington, Cheshire, England, serving as assistant air installations officer. He took full advantage of the opportunity to travel, visiting Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, and Switzerland. While at Burtonwood, he met his wife of sixty years, Jacqueline Nan Dickinson, of Sanford, Florida, who was serving in the USAF as a flight nurse. They were married in Birmingham, Alabama on May 28, 1956.
Howard and Jackie moved to Springfield in 1958. He was a civil engineer throughout his career, establishing his own engineering company, the Howard Moore Group. He finished his career with Greene County, serving as county engineer and later as administrator of the Greene County Highway Department.
He had a lifelong passion for airplanes and cars: he was very proud of having soloed in a plane at age 15 and flew as a private pilot for many years. He owned more nice automobiles than can be accurately counted, but at one point he could remember 68 of them! Howard was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and also volunteered for the Gideons.
Howard is predeceased by his parents, his wife Jackie, his brother Norman Moore, and his sister Doris Moore Elliott. He is survived by daughter Laurie and son-in-law Rob Hermance-Moore of Columbus, Ohio, son Douglas Moore of Springfield, granddaughter Allison Hermance-Moore of Columbus, and a nephew.
The family will welcome friends at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole St., on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at 11 am, with a brief service at 12 noon. Burial will follow at 1 pm at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
