Homer D. Abbott, 92, of Springfield, MO, passed away Saturday July 14.  He was born to Ulysses Grant Abbott and Cora McComas Abbott on August 29, 1925 in Clothier, West Virginia.  Homer was the youngest of eight children; three brothers and four sisters all preceded him in death.  His family included one daughter, Barbara Criger, who preceded him in death, husband Raymond; two sons, Don Abbott of St. Charles; Greg Abbott and wife Brenda of Springfield; and eight grandsons:  Allen and David Criger; Ben, Braden, Beau, Bryan Abbott; and Brett Abbott who preceded him in death; Nick Abbott, and one granddaughter, Megan Abbott, and five great grandchildren.

Homer lived in West Virginia until he left to serve in the Army.  He served in the Philippines and Japan during WWII.   After the war he returned to West Virginia where he met and married Dorislea Wooten in 1950.  They later moved to Detroit, MI where they started a family.   They moved to Florida for a short period before moving to Springfield where the children were raised.  Homer worked as an automobile mechanic and a factory worker. He retired from Zenith in 1990 and moved to the Galena area, until the last few years of his life when he moved back to Springfield.

He will be interred at the Missouri Veterans' Cemetery following a family graveside service.  There will be no visitation.  In-lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to his favorite charity, the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 18th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20006. Arrangements are under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.
