Herman Ellison, 93, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away July 3, 2010. He was born October 8, 1916, in Roy, Missouri. He was a World War II Veteran and received degrees in education from both Southwest Missouri State University and Drury University. Herman was an educator for over 30 years, ending his career as Assistant Principal at Pershing Middle School. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maxine Kester Ellison; daughter, Karen Ellison; granddaughter, Carrie Butler and her husband Justin; sister-in-law, Virginia Kester; nephew, Dennis Kester and his wife Paula; three great nephews; and one great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Cora Ellison; brother-in-law, Ernest Kester Jr.; and nephew, David Kester. Herman greatly enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time outdoors. A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 1 to 2 p.m., in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Private family burial will take place at a later date in Hazelwood Cemetery.
