Obituary

Henrietta passed away Monday, December 20, 2010 at the ManorCare Health Systems. Henrietta was born July 6, 1928 to Henry and Elva (Malan) Avondet. She was one of ten children. She graduated from Monett High School. Henrietta met Billy B. Bowen, and they married January 25, 1947. To this union two children were born, Pamela Kay and Michael Douglas. She worked as a secretary at Hillcrest High School and then transferred to Parkview until her retirement in 1990. Henrietta was a long-time member and deacon of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church; she was also a member of the 49ers Sunday School Class. She was also a long-time active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Laureate Gamma lota Chapter. Henrietta and Bill loved playing golf and taking trips across the country. Henrietta was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, brothers, Albert and Ed Avondet, sisters Wilma Eason and Helen Wormington; brothers-in-law Jack Bowen and John T Bowen. Left to mourn her passing are her children, Pam Curtis and husband Dan, Mike Bowen and special daughter Ann Hager. She is also survived by her grandson Scott Curtis. Also surviving are her brothers Louis Avondet (Avonelle); J.R. Avondet, sisters, Noveta Helmkamp, Willadean Chapman, Irene Henson and sisters-in-law, Lucille Avondet, Mary Virginia Bowen, Margaret Fulton and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, January 6, 2011 in First and Calvary Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 PM, Wednesday, January 5, 2010 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made either to First and Calvary, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
