IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen
Scott
January 13, 1925 – July 8, 2016
Helen Wolf Scott, age 91, Springfield, went to meet her maker at 4:30 am on July 8th at Cox Hospital. Helen was born in Protem, MO, to James and Clara (Hampton) Wolf, January 13, 1925.
She lost her mother at age 17 and grew up in an almost pioneer lifestyle where her family homesteaded 500 acres close to the Missouri-Arkansas border, no electricity or running water, cooked and heated on a wood stove, and the family raised the majority of their food. Yet under these conditions, Helen and her two brothers all earned college degrees at a time when less than 5% of women and 6% of men in the US had achieved.
She attended Forsyth High School and State Teachers College (MSU) where she was a member of the Bruin Boosters. She taught school to pay for her college education in a one room school house at age 17 where she was younger than some of her students grades 1 to 12. She was an avid reader and loved working crossword puzzles. Helen was kind, wise, generous, spunky yet graceful and one of the most nonjudgmental people with an unconditional love for her family. She had such strength and showed her faith through her actions.
She married Harold Scott, the love of her life in Ozark MO, September 20, 1945. He passed away, January 20, 1998. They had a daughter, Sheila.
She was a long time member of Second Baptist Church and a 50 year member of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Tom) Young, granddaughter, Tara (Ty) Lewis and grandson, Bryan Young, a sister-in-law, Esther Scott, a brother- in-law, Paul Scott and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her two brothers Eric and York.
She will be laid to rest in the Wolf Memorial Cemetery Protem, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wolf Memorial Cemetery in care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Mark Anderson at Cox Hospital for his special care at their time of need.
The funeral service is Thursday, July 14th, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole in Springfield, visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. preceding the service.
