Obituary

Helen Marie Scrivener Luce was born June 19, 1924. The seventh child of John Thomas and Suzanne Scrivener. She attended Springfield Senior High. Helen married her childhood sweetheart Dorell Luce on December 9, 1940. Helen attended Pythian Avenue Baptist Church; there she asked Jesus to be her Savior. Helen was a housewife, and she spent a brief stint as a telephone operator during WWII. Helen was a golfer, a sea shell picker, and a sunset admirer. She loved crossword puzzles, pinochle, and cribbage. She was a member of Eastern Star. She thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Ladies Bowling League at Plaza Bowl and Battlefield Lanes and served as league secretary for a number of years. She also served as a "Pink Lady" at St. Johns Hospital and Lee County Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida. Helen had a kind and gentle spirit, a great sense of humor and, a beautiful smile. She fought Alzheimer's with strength and graiciousness. Helen loved her extended family; times spent with her children, siblings, nieces and nephews were precious to her. She is survived by her children: Tim Luce and Adele; Dorelen Crocker and Pat; Tracy Slagle and Chris. Her grandchildren: John Luce and Jennifer; Beth Gann and Matt; Angie Crocker; Jeremy Crocker and Angela; Carol Friedl; Lyndsey Lamberth; Turner Slagle; Austin Slagle. And her great- grandchildren: Jocee, Sophia, Hunter, Taylor, Sydney, Will, Cole, Juliet, Brogen. Mother and Father were fortunate enough to remain in their home because of the loving care provided by Kay Pogue and her grandson, Caleb. Our family would like express our thanks to Kay and Caleb, for the care of our parents, We know our Heavenly Father will say to you "well done, good and faithful servants." Helen was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, one grandchild, and her husband. The celebration of her life will be held Friday, April 26th at 2:00pm at Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home 1947 E. Seminole with a gathering of family and friends immediately following.
