Helen Groeteke of Springfield, MO died January 24, 2015 at Quail Creek Nursing Home at the wonderful age of 97. Helen grew up in Doniphan, MO where she went to a one-room schoolhouse called Lone Star. She moved to St. Louis where she met Homer and had two children. In 1959, they moved to Springfield where she worked in the finance department of city hall. Helen loved to spend time with her friends and family, dance and play cards. She was also a member of Kingsway United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Homer Groeteke; brothers, Woodrow, Nace, Bob and Elmer and sisters, Marie, Ollie and Caroline. Helen is survived by her daughter, Gail Gilmore and husband Chad, Springfield; son, Gary Groeteke and wife Vannetta, Nixa; grandsons, Ryan Groeteke and wife Chrissy, Nixa and Brett Groeteke and wife Sarah, Springfield; great-grandchildren, Addison Groeteke, Springfield, Kinsley and Jaycelyn Groeteke, Nixa, and Brilee Groeteke, Springfield; and one half-sister, Opal Hall, Doniphan, MO. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, MO with the Rev. Jon Spalding officiating. Visitation will precede services from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Rivermonte Cemetery. In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Abou Adhem Shrine Building Fund, or the Shriners Children's Hospital in St. Louis.
