Obituary

"Her beauty is her own and she is not proud" Turlough O'Carolan Helen Evangeline (Brown) Shipman Deck, age 93, passed away in Springfield, Mo. Tuesday, December 11, 2012. Helen's parents were Eugene Fuller Brown and Helen Dobbins Brown. Born in Springfield December 2, 1919, she grew up on her family's farm near Marshfield, with seven brothers and sisters. She graduated from Northview High School in 1937, and came to Springfield where she attended Daughton's Business College. Helen worked for a number of years for the Beneficial Finance Company. A true child of nature and a creative spirit, she engaged in many artistic activities, particularly drawing, painting, and sculpture. Survivors include: Helen's daughter, Gale Shipman Alder, son-in-law Thomas Alder, sister-in-law Maxine Brown, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands: John C. Shipman and George D. Deck; sisters Florine Brown, Esther Titterington and Frances McDermott; brothers Lincoln Brown, Berryman Brown, John Curtis Brown, and Eugene Brown. Friends may call at the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday, December 16. Graveside service will be in Marshfield Cemetery Monday, December 17 at 1:00 PM.
