Obituary

Hazel L. Love was born on November 12, 1919 in Wright County, Missouri to Nathaniel and Zoa Robbins. She died in peace on March 20, 2018 at the age of 98. She attended rural schools in Webster and Wright counties and Marshfield High School.

In 1938, Hazel married Lavaughan George.  To this union a son, Vaughn George was born in 1939 and a daughter Betty Gale (Long) Love was born in 1949.  Soon after World War II started, the family moved to San Diego, California.  Hazel and Lavaughan worked in an airplane factory where Hazel was a female "riveter" during the early years of the war.  When the family returned to Missouri they lived on farms near Niangua and Conway.  Lavaughan died in 1949 at the age of 37.  In 1950 the family moved to Springfield.  Hazel worked at the American Bag Company and then Lily Tulip for several years until she married Sidney L. Love in 1954 and became a full-time wife and mother. Through the years, she became an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

Hazel was preceded in death by her first husband, Lavaughan George, her second husband, Sidney L. Love, her daughter, Betty Gale (Long) Love, her mother and father, Zoa and Nathaniel Robbins, four brothers, Ertle, Norville, Clarence, and Dale Robbins and two sisters, Gale Oppenheimer and Grace Grisham.

She is survived by her son, Vaughn George and his wife Sue, granddaughter Angela Stillings and husband Tony, grandson Mark George and wife Angie, four great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.  Hazel was a member of Cherry Street Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri.

Visitation will be Friday, March 23, 2018 from 10 to 11:00 AM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM in the funeral home.  Interment will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
